PlutoSurvivor | When you were growing up, what did your mother (or parent/guardian) make for dinner when she/he didn't feel like cooking? ... that dreaded meal ... What do you make your family when you don't feel like cooking? ... take out is not an acceptable answer Have fun with this! (My mom made tuna on toast, smothered in cream of mushroom soup, From a Can! yuck.) |
PlutoSurvivor | She had to strain the mushrooms . |
PlutoSurvivor | Nobody liked those little rubbery squares floating on top

PlutoSurvivor | We would freak out if she missed any! |
MoonWitch | We were extremely poor when I was growing up but my mother was an amazing cook when we had things to cook. I don't remember her really not feeling like cooking when I was young. I do know there were times we didn't have much food and we'd just have mac & cheese, or a piece of toast with some ground beef on it, or some ramen noodles. When I don't feel like cooking (which is often on weekdays because I'm tired from hectic life and work), I make sure I have easily microwavable meals - usually from Costco. I focus on healthy, though! There is an amazing Southwest Black Bean soup that is organic, vegan and gluten free that I love. Or stuffed grape leaves which don't even require heating.

dadoo | My grandmother used to do bread soup. It's supposed to be some disgusting slimy thing done with bread leftovers but I loved it. It was beyond her understanding how I actually could ask for it.These days I just put rice in the cooker or fry eggs ^^ |

12muddy | My mother doesn't cook. Whenever I'm busy and there's little time I'll make something light. Eggs n chopped tomatoes n some garlic - just put the ingredients together n stir until cooked. It looks like a mess lol but it tastes amazing (at least to me lol) I love this egg dish.
Peaches (or other fruits) n sugar n a bit of cinnamon on some squares of puff pastry - once baked, they taste amazing. Thinly sliced beef in lemon juice n pepper - 10 -15 minutes n it's ready to eat. Rice cooked in chicken stock n spices. Eaten with raw eggs. Sooooo tasty. I'm addicted to this. It's better with fresh eggs thoughhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgH5hCueHzI

Padre35 | Tortilla's w/cheese and chopped garlic or Cheese toast butter and bacon or bean paste or occasionally Ramen (ditch the flavor packet, it's poison) with parmesan cheese, garlic powder and bacon pieces Omelette w/whatever veg you have around and cheese on fresh bread Total time for any of those is less than 15 minutes Sometimes a stir fry, what she did not realize is you are supposed to braise the protein, then remove it, then cook the veg, then fry the rice..never broke the egg into the rice either...Moms couldn't cook real well |

That gift of hospitality AA Could use a mandolin tbh, some veg heads come by, to cook veg right you have to cut it consistently so it cooks evenly. One cooked bite, one semi cooked bite..sucks tbh |
